“Megacities 2011 – Sustainable development, constructive growth”
Desarrollo Sostenible, Crecimiento Constructivo
The AHK Argentina, in collaboration with the German embassy and notable regional organizations, is organizing the Forum “MEGACITIES 2011” - Challenges and urban possibilities in the 21st Century.

This conference will take place on August 11th in the events center of the Catholic University of Buenos Aires (UCA) (Av Alicia Moreau de Justo 1680, Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires).

Different causes such as population growth and economic globalization lead to a considerable growth of big cities. It is expected that by the year 2030 more than 60% of the world population will live and work in these cities.
Today more than 80% of the greenhouse gases emitted by Europe originate from such metropolises. In Latin America and the rest of the world new cities are appearing, each one with increasing populations, including Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro.

These changes generate new questions:

• Can the cities’ infrastructure be adapted and improved to achieve a better way of life?
• How can we make better use of our energy resources?
• Is it possible to achieve sustainable development through the collaboration of the private and public sectors in the short, middle and long term?

This Forum aims to achieve greener solutions, the diffusion of know-how between the attendants and seeks to encourage positive discussions. The objective of the presentations of new projects is to foster a straighter path to these new metropolises.

In order to see these changes implemented this Forum facilitates a space where international experts from the public and private sectors can work together. It will also be a platform where new technologies, lifestyles and different solutions to global issues will be demonstrated.

This conference addresses government members, representatives of companies, research organizations and the media, as well as scientists, students and political organizations.

The topics include:

• Management of Megacities and its trends
• Climate change and its challenges concerning City government
• Sustainable mobility
• Sustainable use of energy
• Smart cities
